Most negligent hiring or retention suits rest on an individual’s past history of criminal behavior, making this one of our most important client services. These checks ensure the safety of all employees, maintain compliance with state regulations, and potentially help reduce the risk of theft or fraud in the workplace. At Employers Reference Source, we provide thorough criminal background checks that are compliant with FCRA regulation and allow a company to be as informed as possible about every potential new employee. Taking this precaution before hiring candidates can mean saving time and money, as well as decreasing the chance of unfit individuals working in your company environment.
The search for criminal records are based on the candidate's current and past residences. Searches include checks for felony and misdemeanor arrests and/or convictions, and depending on availability, will include:
Case Number
Arrest Date
Charge
Severity of Charge

Employers Reference Source searches jurisdictions within and beyond the United States to offer our clients a comprehensive range of search options that meet their specific needs.
At Employers Reference Source, we strive to help clients in a variety of industries. That is why we complete a number of different criminal screenings, including:
ERS comprehensive statewide searches research misdemeanors, felonies and traffic offenses in all 50 states utilizing state law enforcement registries and repositories. A statewide search is an affordable means to search all counties in a state for one low price. Statewide searches are not available in all states, and ERS will only conduct statewide searches in those states that offer reliable, up-to-date, and thorough records.
County-level criminal searches are conducted in the court seat. Records are physically viewed directly at the courthouse by ERS’ wide-range of national court retrievers, or searched via a direct connection to the court by our team of criminal experts.
Federal criminal cases are crimes prosecuted by the United States government and are not found in statewide and county criminal searches. Case information is contained within the 94 federal districts nationwide, and typically involve violations of serious offenses such as tax evasion, immigration law, embezzlement, fraud, U.S. Mail and wire fraud, robbery, interstate drug trafficking and kidnapping, arms violations, and any other violations of federal law, or crimes that take place on federally-owned property. These searches are judicious supplements to county and state criminal record checks.
This is a supplemental service to ERS’ criminal records search. The Nationwide Criminal Search accesses a proprietary criminal database to seek out criminal records in states where the applicant had no previous address history. This is a search against records collected from various counties and states, including State Department of Corrections and the Administrative Office of the Courts. It is important to understand that not all states and counties contribute to this database; and therefore, should never be used as a stand-alone criminal search.
ERS searches The U.S. Department of Justice National Sex Offender Registry, which includes real time listings of registered sex offenders in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, U.S. territories, and Indian Nations. This search can reveal additional records not found during the standard criminal history search.
ERS is able to conduct searches throughout 196 countries around the globe. As the professionals in background screening, ERS guides you in providing the required information needed for successfully searching in the correct location, knows the information to search for, and is knowledgeable in the compliance requirements for each country.
